"I am very much obliged to you for the thoughts you have, for our Little ship. I do assure you Sr. Jacob it is my oppinion [sic] that no ship can do better in all respects, than she does at present, but however, I will get the masts forward, as you desire, and try her that way...."
Byng's first command was the Gibraltar, to which he was assigned on 8 August 1727.
Ackworth, whose name is spelled "Acworth" in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, was a shipbuilder by trade. In 1715, he was named surveyor of the Navy whose duties included approving plans and models of new ships being built or rebuilt.
With a bookseller's description (no. 45) that includes a description of an accompanying portrait (on leaf 5v) and Byng's last will and codicil (leaf 266r), both cataloged separately.

Previously tipped onto leaf 6r of The Tragedy of Admiral Byng, 1756-1757, but now laid in.
