Thomas Conway was an Irishman who fled to France and joined the Army. He subsequently came to America, as a volunteer, to fight in the Revolution. He is the Conway in the infamous "Conway Cabal". He returned to France after the war and continued his military career until fleeing France at the start of the French Revolution and died in exile. He was made an honorary member of the French Society in 1786.
