Bust, to the right, in uniform, with ribband. Oval, wth border line, 1/16.
Below the title it reads: "From a miniature on ivory presented by Washington to his niece Harriet, and now belonging to her daughter's family. Below, in Washington's hand, is written: "I am Sir, Ye most obed.t Serv.t." Signed: "Go. Washington, Fort Loudoun, 10th Sept. 1757" The copyright appears below the signature.

Hart indicates that the miniature ivory portrait by Peale, which resides in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, was actually done on the march to Germantown in 1777, when Washington was forty-five. De Mare produced this engraving for the publicaton, Irving's Life of Washington.
