William Popham [print]
Description
1 photomechanical print ; on sheet 24 x 16 cm.
Call Number
P&E L2003D364m
Note
Head and shoulders to the right, in uniform. Wears the eagle of the Society of the Cincinnati on his left lapel. Rectangle.
This is a photomechnical reproductnion of a painted portrait. While someone has written on the sheet that the artist was Gilbert Stuart, more reliable sources attribute it to Edward Savage. Unlike the later portraits of Popham, this one shows him in uniform at the time of the Revolution.
This is a page from the Daughters of the Cincinnati 1910-1911 Yearbook after page 46.
William Popham was an original member of the Society of the Cincinnati from the state of New York. He served as the Seventh President General of the Society from 1844-1848.
