Note
On the occasion of the General's visit in September 2024 to Trenton, N.J., during his visit to the United States in 1824-25.
This is apparently a draft with several corrections, asides and cross-outs.
"I am directed by the State Spociety of Cincinnati of New Jersey to (read and) present to you their unanimous resolve of the 5th of July last."
"Altho' the great military atchievements [sic] by means whereof this glorious triumph was obtained, in which you were a distinguished part are written on the tables of our hearts yet in words we are only able to offer to your acceptance this further testimonial of our most cordial affrection, of our most perfect respect - and of our most profound veneration marked however with our tears at the recollection of your sufferings at Olmutz and with our unqualified regret that your efforts in the great cause of mankind have not always been crowned with as complete success."
Also two leaves, probably intended to enclose the address. One is labeled at upper right: Address to / General La Fayette
