From the standing committee of the Rhode Island Society informing Benjamin Bourne that he had been elected an honorary member; Thomas P. Ives was also approved for membership.
"... the Instituiton to which we now invite you was founded at the close of revolutionary War to commemorate the great Events of it, and for the cultivation of Friendship and the extension of Charity, the two principal Pillars on which our Institution rests."
