Begins 16th July 1759 with "Militia" regiment based at Wells (Somerset) who march the next day to Bridgewater, then over the next few days march via Taunton, Wellington, Tiverton, South Molton, Barnstaple to Bideford (Devon) arriving on August 9th 1759. They are based at Bideford until they leave on the 18th of May 1760 marching back to Wells via the same route arriving on the 29th May 1760. They remain based in Wells until the 15th March 1761 when they march to Bedminster (Bristol) where they remain until the 8th of April before returning to Wells. They remain in Wells until the 15th of July before marching via Frome, Warminster, Salisbury, Stockbridge, etc. until reaching Goldalming on the 23rd September 1761 then marching to Gosport arriving on the 26th September 1761 remaining there until the 26th of October 1761.
Entry for Nov. 7, 1754 mentions Sir Charles Tynte in connection with a potential court martial for desertion. Tynte was appointed Colonel of the 2nd Somerset Militia when it was first embodied on 3 July 1759 and commanded it until the end of the American War of Independence. This orderly book may be one from the 2nd Somerset.
Several entries mention exercise and drills as well as such behavioral restrictions against playing cards, etc.
