Letter of Lawrence Lewis to his brother Robert regarding visit from General Lafayette, his son and secretary on Dec. 5 & 6 to Mount Vernon and Woodlawn; Lafayette's visit to Columbian College (now George Washington University) also mentioned, then on to Annapolis.
"The unhappy state of Mrs. Washingtons health precluded even a wish by the judge to have his company unless merely to dine, & this matter was so arranged that the Gen.l did dine with him on Sunday...."
"Mr. W. Washington", who had described his situation in "a most pitious manner as a ruined & miserable man" on p. [2] identified as Warner Washington (1751-1828/9), the nephew of Catherine Washington (George Washington's first cousin), the first wife of Col. Fielding Lewis; Betty Washington (George Washington's sister) was his second wife.
