Head and shoulders, to the right. Rectangle. A small circular inset at the lower left corner shows the Houdon's, Louvre terra cotta bust of Washington. Below the title it reads: "From the original by C. W. Peale. In possession of Rev. Mason Gallagher."
The Peale portrait was painted in about 1787 at the request of Mrs. Bernard Gallagher of Humfries, Prince William County, Virginia. Owned later by Rev. Mason Gallagher, Brooklyn, New York.
