A diary beginning 3 Mach 1776 in Ziegenhain, describing the marches and voyages through Bremerlehe, Portsmouth, New York, to the Battle of Trentn, New Jersey, where Kappes was captured. The prisoners were marched to Virginia, then repatriated to New York. The diary abruptly ends on 1 October 1777 after the voyage and capture of the ship Triton. Additional diary material includes a Muster Roll of Major von Dechow's Regiment with 83 soldiers' names and statistics.
