Washington: from an original now made public for the first time [print]
Description
1 photomechanical print ; on sheet 31 x 26 cm.
Call Number
P&E L2004D14m [mod]
Note
Head and shoulders, in profile, in uniform, to the right. Wax sculpture on dark background, in oval.
This appears to be the Menderworth 1865 "Photo" (Taylor & Brown, 914 Chestnut St, Phila.) since it has the printed disclaimer below, which reads: "The original of this new likeness of the father of his country, was modeled from life, in wax, by the eccentric Mrs. Wright, the great American modeler of the revolutionary period. It was presented by herself to the late Paul Beck, Esq., of Philadelphia. His son has kindly permitted us to make this, the only copy in existence. Its genuineness can therefore be vouched for without a question." The photo, title and disclaimer are enclosed in a single line, ractangular border.
Gift of H. Russell Drowne, Jr.
