An equestrian statue of Washington sit atop the monument which was desgned by Thomas Crawford (1813-1857), and dedicated on the Capitol grounds in Richmond, VA on February 22, 1850. The horse and rider sit atop the pedistal which has the title Washington at its base, with standing figures and eagles below. Vignette in slightly tinted rectangle. Below the title it reads: "From a photograph and drawing made for Irving's Washington by J.W. Ehninger, N.Y."
