Note
The portrait of Washington, after Stuart's Athenaeum, appears in a large central oval framed with laural leaves with a plate below with his name and dates. In the original engraving a portrait of Franklin Pierce was in the central position. In this Washington version, Pierce and Buchanan appear on either side of Washington. All the remaining former presidental portraits appear in an outer circle in ovals with borders containing names, dates, and laural leaves. However, the top center oval, where Washington's portrait appeared in the original, now has a portrait of Lincoln. At the top are flags and eagles along with a banner enscribed "E plurbus unum". The title appears in a ribbon below the portraits. The address in the lower left has been changed to read: "Sold by Lange & Knowfield 201 William Street, New York."
This variation of the engraving is described in Hart as #855d.
