Note
Three-quarter length, standing, torso to the left, head to the right, in uniform. His left hand rests on his hip and he hold a paper in this right hand as it rests on the barrel of a cannon. Soldiers on parade in the background to the left. Under the title is a facsimile signature.
Below the signature it states: Painted by J. Herring from the original by Col. Sargeant [sic] in the collection of the Massachusetts Historical Society."
This is an illustration from Herring and Longacre's, The national portrait gallery of distinguished Americans, Vol. II.
Benajmin Lincoln was an original member for the Society of the Cincinnati from the state of Massachusetts.
Two copies.
