This appears to be the engraved title page from the book "The tour of General Lafayette ..." published in New York, 1825, referring to his final tour of the United States in 1824-25. A picture of Lafayette's arrival in New York appears in a center circle. It shows the steamboat Chancellor Livingston, which carried Lafayette to his reception in New York, decorated with flags, approaching the pier at Fort Lafayette, where a large number of persons are waiting for the ship to dock and a large American flag files above the Fort. The Cadmus, the American merchant ship that brought Lafayette from France, appears in the background. A number of other boats and ships form a flotilla to celebrate the arrival. A 21 gun salute is being fired on the shoreline. At the bottom of the circle it reads: "Landing of Gen. Lafayette at Castle Garden, N. Y., 16th August 1824. A border of laural leaves surrounds the circle 3/16. It is enclosed an a rectangle which contains the book title.
