Three-quarter figure, standing to the right, wearing ecclesiastical robes, and coller with Calvin tabs. His right hand rests on a pedistal. Vignette. Below the portrait and above the title is a facsimilie signature. Below the title it reads: Consecrated Sept. 25th 1835. Above the portrait appears the following abbreviation: D.M.A. of Y.S.C.
Jackson Kemper was active in the episcopal Church in America and served most of his life in the church's missionary movement within the then Northwest (Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin, etc.) He was involved in establishing colleges in the region to educate the clergy, including Racine College in Wisconsin.
Jackson Kemper was the son of an original member of the Society of the Cincinnati from the state of New York, Daniel Kemper. However, there is no record that he ever was a member of the Society. His son, Samuel Relf Kemper did hold the heredity membership in the New York Society beginning in 1882.
