Full figure, seated in a chair to the right, wearing a long brocade dressing gown. His legs are crossed and his slippered feet rest on a low stool. He holds a book in his lap. A pitcher and glass sit on a table to the rear of his chair. Title is facsimilie signature.
Below the title it reads: "From the original picture by Chappel in the possession of the publishers."
This is an illustration from Duyckinck's The national portrait gallery of eminant Americans, Vol. I, betweeh pages 92 and 93.
