Full figure, seated on a box, to the left, in uniform, reading a map. His hat rests on the box to his left. A cannon sits in the background and a cannon ball rests near his feet. A city can be seen in the distance. The title is a facsimilie signature and below the signature it reads: "Likeness from the latest photograph from life."
This is an illustration from Duyckinck, National portrait gallery of eminent Americans, Vol II, between pages 456 and 457.
Ulysses S. Grant was made an honorary member of the Society of the Cincinnati by the state of New York in 1884.
