Note
Engraving printed reversed - artist's name and location are mirror images. However, title is correct image. As viewed on the page, head and shoulders to the left. Vignette. The title is a facsimilie signature.
This engraving appears to be after a portrait by Rembrandt Peale. The Peale portrait shows Gadsden facing left as is shown in this print.
Christopher Gadsden was a politician during the revolution from South Carolina. As a delegate to the Second Continental Congress, he designed the famous yellow flag depicting coiled rattlesnakes and the words, "DON"T TREAD ON ME."
