A print, reproduced in Optak, of a painting that hangs in the Virginia Suite at Anderson House, headquarters of the Society of the Cincinnati, depicting the reception of General Layfayette at a meeting of the Society of the Cincinnat in Richmond, Virginia in 1824, in the Hall of the House of Delegates of the Virginia Capitol. A legend below the painting identifies the principal members shown in the painting.
This print was produced as a souvenir for those attending the General Meeting of the Cincinnat held in the Hall in the Virignia Capitol on May 15-17, 1941.
Library has 6 copies: one copy is signed by the painter to Bryce Metcalf, President General of the Society at the time; another copy is cropped on the margins and removed from a damaged frame.
The folder also contains two copies in the souvenir presentation envelop which reads: "Reception of the Society of the Cicninnati in the State of Virginia in horor of the Marquis de Lafayette, last surviving Major-General of the American War of Independence, Hall of the House of Delegates in the Virginia Capitol, 1824, Souvenir of the General Meeting of the Cincinnati held in that Hall, 15-17 May 1941. Painted by Frederick William Wright of the Viriginia Cincinnati."
