Full figure, standing facing forward, in uniform aboard his ship. His left foot rests on the base of a cannon and both hands rest atop a spyglass which rests on his left knee. The title is a facsimilie signature. Below the title it reads: "From the original painting in the possission of the publishers."
This is an illustration from Duyckinck's, A national portrait gallery of eminent Americans, Vol. I, between pages 412 and 413.
Stephen Decatur was made an honorary member of the Society of the Cincinnati by the state of New York in 1813.
