Full figure, seated on a chair to the right, in uniform, in his quarters onboard his ship. His right hand and his sword rest against his right knee. His left arm rests on the edge of a table. A pistol rests on a drum at the left of the picture. On the table, to the right, are books and nautical instruments. He wears the eagle of the Society of the Cincinnati on his left lapel.
