Three-quarter length, standing to the left, in uniform. His left hand rests on a rock wall and his injured right arm is strapped at the wrist in a sling to his shoulder and his hand is behind his coat. Rectangle. Below the portrait it reads: "Engr.d buy Step.n H. Gamber from a Painting by Ja.s Herring taken from a sketch by an officer in the army."
Below the title is a facsimilie signature.
This is an illustration from Herring and Longacre, The national portrait gallery of distinguished Americans, Volume II.
Francis Barber was an eligible member of the Society of the Cincinnati from the state of New Jersey.
