Three-quarter length to the right, standing in uniform of Virginia colonel in the French and Indian war, with Wolfe hat, ribband across breast, left hand thrust in waistcoat, right hand behind his back holding his musket, in landscaped background. Oval in ornamental irregular border with scrolls and maidens with swords and horns.
This is based on the Charles Wilson Peale portrait in the possession of G.W.Custis, Esq., Arlington House, but is reversed with Washington facing right, not left. Louis Rosenthal's brother Max Rosenthal produced a number of engravings of Washington based on Peale's portraits.
