Pen and ink sketch of the building that was constructed in January, 1783, at Washington's Newburgh, N.Y.Headquarters, at the request of Chaplain Israel Evans, for use as a hall for divine services but thought to be a place for dances and parties by other officers. In March of 1783, it was the site of Washington's response to the controversial Newburgh Address which lead to the formation of the Society of the Cincinnati.
This enlarged photographic print of the drawing of the building was given to the Society in May, 1960, by Mr. Henry Hoagland. It was used in the making of a Society film.
