Note
A petition from Jernigan to General [Anthony Wayne] Wain [sic]. Jernigan is imprisoned for being absent from duty while he moved his family "out of that Settlement for safety." Jernigan also says "my family were exposed to the mercy of the Indians and Torys."
Reasons for release include "I have served time after time in the Continental service, have suffered imprisonment under the British, at the same time treated by the Savages intallreable [sic] ill."
Jernigan asks for "no more than my person merrits [sic]".
18 signers of the petition, including Captain Mills [Miles] Murphree, Captain William Darcy, and Lieutenant Elizor Lewis.
