William Stephens Smith married Abigail Adams, the only daughter of John and Abigail Smith Adams.
William Stephens Smith was an original member of the Society of the Cincinnati from the state of New York. He served as Aide-de-Camp to Washington at the Battle of Yorktown and was said to have presented Cornwallis to Washington at the surrender. He served as the President of the New York Chapter of the Society in 1795.
