Two small vignette engravings on what appears to the title page from the "Boston miscellany of literature & fashion.": 1. Gen. Francis Marion pointing out items on a table to a British officer as Marion's servant (see below) and other soldiers look on. 2. Shows the capture of Maj. Andre, his boot removed, and handing his valuables to those who have captured him. Both engravings are surrounded by scrolls, laural leaf, American flags, and crest.
This print, based on the 1836 painting General Marion inviting a British officer to share his meal by John Blake White.
White probably intended the black man preparing the meal to be Oscar Marion, Francis Marion's slave and personal servant during the war.
Francis Marion was an original member of the SC Society.
