Three-quarter length, seated in a chair, to the right. Her hands are folded in her lap and she holds a closed fan in her right hand. Her upswept hair is decorated with a strand of pearls and she wears a double strand of pearls around her neck.
Below the title it reads: "From an original picture by Gilbert Stuart in possession of Pratt McKean, Esq., Philadelphia
Sally McKean was the daughter of the Chief Justice of Pennsylvania, and was among those attending the First Inauguration of George Washington in New York. She later married Don Carlos Martinez, Marquis d'Yrujo, Spanish minister to the United States during the Washington administration..
