Note
Three-quarter length standing, to the left, almost in profile, hands covered by a shawl at the the waist and wearing a large brimmed hat, tied around the neck with a ribbon.
Below the title it reads: "From an original picture by R. E. Pine, in possession of Hon. William Jay, Bedford, New.York."
John Jay was Secretary for Foreign Affairs for the last Continental Congress and he was the first minister ot Spain. He later served in France where Mrs. Jay and Madame LaFayette were friends.
