Note
The print of the painting shows a wide view of the battlefield at Yorktown with columns of American troops marching toward the front, where the smoke of cannon fire can be seen along the bay. Washington and his officers are gathered behind a fortress in the foreground. The original of this painting hangs in the Musee de Versailles.
On the reverse is a photograph of a portion of a "Letter from the Marquis de La Fayette to the Comte de Vergennes about the Yorktown victory. From his camp near York, Octover 20, 1781 (Paris, Ministere des Affaires Etrangeres, Correspondance Politique, Etats-Unis, vol. 19, fol. 106)
