Sometimes erroneously attributed to Tobias George Smollett (by Halkett & Laing) and sometimes to General Wentworth who was in command of the land forces.
Signatures: [pi]² A-G H².
During the War of Jenkin's Ear (1739-43), the British attempted a naval assault on Cartagena, a fortified Spanish port in Colombia. The siege failed after three months and the British were forced to withdraw; expedition of Admiral Vernon and General Wentworth.
