The collection was given to the university in 1945 by Mr. Fowler. It was increased in size since the publication of the original catalog in 1961 by transfer of items from the John Work Garret Library, in which it is housed, by purchase, and by gift receipts. The expanded collection was microfilmed, and the microfilm made available for purchase. This guide to the microfilm collection is a photographically reduced reprint of the original 1961 catalog with the addition of a catalog of the items added to the Fowler collection since then--Cf. Preface.
