First published anonymously in 1738 under title: Spanish insolence corrected; 1739 under title: Spanish insolence corrected by English bravery ... by Captain Jinkins; later 1739 under title: England's triumph, or, Spanish cowardice expos'd. ... by Captain Charles Jenkins. By "Charles Jenkins" is probably meant "Robert Jenkins" who lost one of ears in an encounter with the Spaniards in 1731 and gave his name to the War of Jenkin's Ear; it is not plausible that Robert Jenkins was the author.
