This is photographic adaptation of the work by John James Barralet, titled Commemoration of Washington, where the group of women and children on the left of the painting has been replaced with a single female figure with the head of Lincoln, her right arm lifted toward Washington. The inscription "Sacred to the Memory of Washington, O B 14 Dec ad 1799. Aet 68." on the tomb has been removed and the lettering on the tomb cover at the far right which originally read "I.J.Barralet Ficit." has been replaced with the word "Emancipation." Otherwise the engraving of Washington with Stuart's Athenaeum head, whole length, to left, recumbent, rising from a tomb, surrounded by clouds and supported by Time and Immortality, the latter pointing upward, is the same. To the left, is a figure of Liberty, with war emblems at her feet and to the right is an Indian, with bowed figure. Below the photograph is the title and copyright and "Photographed and Published by j. Childs, No. 141 South Second Street" The original engraving is #675b, as referenced in Hart..
