Morse, who achieved his rank in 1775, appears in the Army List in 1777; he quotes the opinions of a Lieut. Ross (p. 30 and 36), who does not appear in the Army List for 1777.
Describes location and specifications of a variety of batteries intended to fortify Grenada, including his evaluation of old weapons and structures such as magazines and guard houses left by the French, who had owned the island since 1674. Line drawings of various fortifications illustrate his plans.
"At upper Sauteur in the possession of Henry Wright is a Royal which was carried there when the attack was made on the runaway Negros commanded by Pompey. There is also lying in Irwin's bay a 4 pounder found in the sand by the same man. This Wright says that Mr. Haslon took two 4 pounders some years ago from off the battery in front of his house and has applied them to his own private use." (p. 20)
Specific locations include Megrin Point, Petit Bacaye, Petit Marquis Bay, La Tante Bay, Port du Grand Marquis, Duquesne Bay, and Petit Bay. (Spellings as in the original.)
Blank leaves, scattered throughout the manuscript, not included in pagination.
Watermarks partially legible: GR with crest and countermark Son; marbled paper wrappers.
