Dedication to Heinrich, Duke of Saxony by Caspar Voigtmann on colored cartouche (leaf [1]): "Dem durchlauchstigsten füriten uns Herrn, Herrn Heinrichen Herzogn zu Sachsen Jülich Aeveursbergs. Landsgrafn in Türingen, Margrafn, zu Meißen Gefürsteter Grafn zu Henheberg, Grafn zu der Marisuns Ravensberg, Herrn zu Revenstein Uberrischt dieses Unterthunigst Caspar Voigtmann 1686."
Text in two parts, in German: part 1 explains artillery of various calibre and mathematical formulas to be considered in their use; part two discusses various howitzers, mortars, and carriages.
Bound in contemporary brown leather with gilt tooling on spine.
Voigtmann was administrator of the arsenal of the house of Saxony and its first fireworks-maker.
The first known version of this manuscript was dedicated to Ernst, Duke of Saxony in 1683 and was later registered in the inventory of the Hauslab-Liechtenstein Library in Vienna. A second version, dated 1686, was kept in the former school of artillery in Berlin-Charlottenburg.
