Robert Field made several copies in miniature of Stuart's first portrait of Washington for Mrs. Washington, soon after the General's death, which Mrs. Washington gave to personal friends of her husband. One such miniature, given to Samual Meredith, is referenced in Hart, Charles H. Cat.of the Engraved Portraits of Washington, 282. This miniature is a copy of one presented to Tobias Lear.
