Bust to right. Oval, with border line 3/16, in rectangle of horizontal lines, within which, below oval, is a tablet with title.
The engraving was done for the Rev.d M.L.Weems by Benjamin Tanner and appears as the Frontispiece in Weems Life of Washington. The reference #524 in Hart, indicates that that version of the engraving appeared in the Second Edition of Weems. This copy of the engraving is a variation of #524 and is the frontispiece page from a later edtion of Weems. It omits the reference to Tanner and Weems in the title, and substitutes the born and died dates instead. This copy contains the title, "Frontispiece", above the engraving, and contains the following statement below the engraving: "To Americans the name of Washington will be ever dear; a savour of sweet incense, descending to every suceeding generation."
