Account of shipwreck and sufferings on an island off Florida's west coast in 1766; appended to the narrative is a certification, by George Swettenham (the commanding officer, at the British post at St. Marks), of the rescue of Viaud and the other two survivors, effected under his orders. Lieutenant Swettenham (officer of the 9th Foot) is found in army lists from 1768 to 1780; in the American Revolution he served and was wounded in Burgoyne's expedition.
Doubt on the authenticity of the narrative: the Viaud voyage is fictitious, according to Sabin, but Howes states that it is well authenticated.
