Reports the successful British actions in the West Indies, though the fleet luckily escaped capture by d'Estaing in the passage to Barbados: If we had not succeeded we must have become prisoners, and all the British Islands would have fallen ... into the hands of the enemy.
Also reports on the troops' health: Our mortality has not been equal to our sickness -- the prevailing disorders, fever & ague -- and upon the whole the troops continue to be more healthy than usual in this climate.
Watermark: Britannia encircled, no text; with countermark G.R., crowned, within a circle: possibly Gravell, Foreign watermarks, figures 290 and 311.
