Volume 3, no. 315 includes summary of British Parliamentary debates in the House of Commons in which Townshend speaks of the capture of Long Island, describing the "slaughter of the Provincials in cold blood as an act of the most savage barbarity for which no defense could be made."
In same issue (p. 81): Council of Safety, ordered to erect a fortification at Billingsport for the defense of Philadelphia, names Blathwaite Jones chief engineer for the project and John Bull Col. Commandant. Also G. Weedon, Adj. Gen., issues general order prohibiting enlistment fraud and abuse; those convicted of enlisting in one regiment, collecting the bounty, deserting, and enlisting in another shall be sentenced to die.
