Vaudreuil, Chef d'escadre during the American revolutionary war, responds point by point to the charges of Amiral de Grasse concerning the Battle of the Saintes, 12 April 1782, when Vice Admiral Rodney captured de Grasse. Vaudreuil was wounded in that action.
Also mentioned are MM. Claude, comte de Mithon de Genouilly, Louis-Antoine, comte de Bougainville, Marerchal de Castries, and his own brother, all of whom later became original members of the Society of the Cincinnati.
