Note
Lafayette stands at the right, his hand over of his heart, pledging himself to the American cause, while Franklin is shown seated in a chair facing Lafayette in the left corner, with the back of the chair shown. A third man, possibly Silas Deane, sits at a table in the center on which is a long paper document and inkwell.
This engraving is framed with a deep, wood trimmed mat, almost shadow-box style, and a half inch, gold and blue frame. A framed companion piece of the Battle of Monmouth, is filed as P&E L1991.242.5 framed.
