Artemas Ward was appointed regimental colonel of the 3rd Regiment of the militias of Middlesex and Worcester counties in 1757. He later served on the colonists' side and commanded Massachusetts troops of the Continental Line.
One Ezra Wood of Worcester County, Mass.,probably this one, later served as a colonel of the Massachusetts militia from 1775 to 1779. At this time he was acting as colonel of a regiment raised for eight months, which served from May 1778 to February 1779.
