Washington, in uniform, stands in the back of a rowboat, waving his hat to the large gathering of offficers standing waving on a dock as he departs New York on December 4, 1783. A large gathering of well wishers can be seen crowding the shoreline all the way to the city, which is shown in the background. Line engraving.
Below the title it reads: Vide "Irvings Life or Washington" page 441, Vol IV, published by G.P.Putnam. An engraving of the American Eagle holding the banner "E plurbus unum" is centered below the above citation and divides the following letters: "Engraved by permission -- from the original drawing. In the collection of the -- late Washington Irving, Esq." In the lower left corner it reads: PROOF, and in the lower right corner it reads: Printed by W. Pate.
Framed with French lined mat in a 2" 22K gold leaf American colonial frame.
