Note
Scene of George Washington arriving in New York harbor for the first inauguration. He is being transported in an elaborately decorated boat, rowed by many oarsmen and accompanied by several dignatories. Washington stands at the bow of the boat, raising his hat in his right hand. The boat is approaching Murray's Wharf where more dignatories, and perhaps his family await. Above the dock's draped entry is a banner reading, "Welcome" "Trenton - Princeton - Monmouth - Yorktown." In the background are numerous decorated boats and ships filled with spectators. Rectangle. Below the engraving is printed, "copyright 1888 Joseph Laing" Below the engraving, in the right hand corner is the pencil signature of the engraver, John C. McRae.
The engraving is framed with gold burnished frame with silver lacquer with inner beading insert. A plate in the center of the bottom of the frame reads: First in Peace. Artist: Joseph Laing Engraver: John C. Macray 1888
John McRae produced the engraving in 1867. Original at Mount Vernon in the Willard-Budd Collection.
