As commander of the secret expeditionary force agains Havana, Albemarle acknowledges that "Thirty slaves arrived with the Dublin the 23d, and Sixty with the Cambridge this day", but he hopes that more can be embarked "in time to be of any Service" during the siege.
Context: In March, Albemarle commanded some 10,000 troops on board Admiral Pocock's fleet; by the time the arrived off Cuba the force was almost 15,000 strong. Jamaica was scheduled to proved 500 "Free Negroes" and 2,000 slaves, but only a small percentage actually embarked.
