Note
Bust, to left, head in profile, in uniform, wearing a hat. Oval with 3/16 horizontally filled border. The Society of Cincinnati eagle and the Ordre of St. Louis are worn on the left lapel. Stipple. C. A. Jacobi Type.
The artist created this engraving, as well as a number of other miniature engravings, between 1790-1810. Similar copies of this engraving can be found as P&E L1994.984m and P&E L1993.761m.
This engraving is framed along with manuscript MSS L91.242.9 M [framed]. The manuscript is a hand written letter from Lafayette to his friend and fellow member of the Society of the Cincinnati, Henry Laurens, upon Lauren's' arrival in Paris in April in 1783.
Gift of Mrs. Lester Gayle
Lafayette was an original member of the Society of the Cincinnati from France.
