On verso: Parole[e?]'s copy. Partially printed document signed by Sproat and Funston and witnessed by Thomas Hewlings. Funston acknowledges himself to be a prisoner of war to the King of Great Britain and "having permission from Mariot [sic] Arbuthnot ... commander in chief of His Majesty's ships and vessels in North America" to go to Philadelphia to secure his exchange for a person of equal rank, promises to return to New York in 40 days if the exchange is not effected.
